Director Stanley Tong reunites with Jackie Chan (Rumble in the Bronx) and deliver more action! “Yoga” has Chan’s signature Kung Fu/comedy, complimented with sets in Beijing, India, Dubai, and Iceland. The backdrops are majestic, but it comes second to the on screen prowess of Chan.
In the film Chan plays Jack “China’s best Archeologist”. When Jack and his teacher assistants Zhu (Yixing Zhang) and Nuomin (Miya Muqi) get approached by Ashmita (Disha Patani) to find priceless ancient historical relics, Jack goes on an archeological adventure. Antagonist Randall (Sonu Sood) believes that the artifacts are his inheritance, so he and his mercenaries shadow the archeologist in order to rob them of their discoveries.
Look to see how martial arts and yoga can be applied to benefit life, from breathing techniques, fasting etc. Colorful backdrops are brilliantly incorporated. A highlight is a luxury car chase set in Dubai. Ferrari’s, Lamborghinis, and Bentleys sparkle next to the Dubai skyline. Not to mention, Jack enters a car that happens to carry a luxury pet in the form of a Lion. A good looking young cast makes “Yoga” easy to watch.
Sara Ward of screendaily.com writes: “Chan gives the special effects-heavy offering some much-needed zest.”
Chan has accumulated countless on set injuries throughout his career, but it has not affected his box office strength, the budget for “Yoga” was $65 million and it grossed $254.2 million. This translates into “Chan is still the Man!” “Yoga” is highly recommended.
