Kill Bill vol.1 is one of director Quentin Tarantino’s finest works. Exceptional
martial arts choreography, plenty of blood, gore, witty dialogue, a musical score by “RZA” that engages the senses, and a supersized helping of decapitations.
“Kill Bill” depicts the story of Beatrix “Black Mamba” Kiddo (Uma Thurman), who is a
member of the “Viper assassination squad”, a group of exceptionally trained international assassins. After becoming pregnant and wanting a better life for her child, Black Mamba attempts to leave the group of assassins only to be discovered and shot in the head by her former colleagues. After miraculously surviving, Black Mamba compiles a list of the members of the viper assassination squad and vows to cross each name out as she kills each one, and no
name is more important than the leader “Bill” (David Carradine).
This film thrills from the first fight with Vernita “Copperhead” Green (Vivica A. Fox), to
the final Massacre where Beatrix takes on an entire Yakuza gang named the crazy 88’s and the
leader, O-Ren “Cottonmouth” Ishii (Lucy Liu). Each character is riveting and memorable, like
“GoGo” (Chiaki Kuriyama) a young female member of the crazy 88’s that always wears a
Japanese school uniform with skirt, whose weapon of choice is a retro-fitted ball and chain with
spikes and blades on the ball.
A. O. Scott of the New York Times Wrote: ”Kill Bill: Vol. 1,” is certain to provoke both awe and
revulsion”.
Therefore, this film is not for the faint of heart, but it is a must watch classic.
